The CCR mourns the recent passing of colleague and friend Ji Ming Wang, M.D., Ph.D., Senior Investigator and Head of the Chemoattractant Receptor and Signal Section in the Cancer Innovation Laboratory.

Steven A. Rosenberg selected as Icon in Surgery by ACS

Steve Rosenberg, M.D., Ph.D., Chief of the Surgery Branch, has been selected as an Icon in Surgery by the American College of Surgeons. He is being highlighted for being a pioneer in the development of oncologic immunotherapy and gene therapy for patients with advanced cancer. Dr. Rosenberg will be giving a video-based presentation at the 2022 ACS Clinical Congress to discuss his work.

Sung-Yun Pai selected for Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM) Program

Sung-Yun Pai, M.D., Chief of the Immune Deficiency Cellular Therapy Program, was selected for the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM) Program for Women at Drexel University College of Medicine. The ELAM® program is dedicated to developing leadership and management skills in healthcare and is designed for senior-level women leaders interested in advancing hospitals and healthcare systems.

Elaine S. Jaffe receives HHS Career Achievement Award

Elaine S. Jaffe, M.D., NIH Distinguished Investigator in the Laboratory of Pathology, was awarded a 2022 Career Achievement Award by the Department of Health and Human Services in recognition of her groundbreaking advances in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with blood cancers.

Kandice Tanner receives Arthur S. Flemming Award

Kandice Tanner, Ph.D., a Senior Investigator in the Laboratory of Cell Biology, is a recipient of the 2021 Arthur S. Flemming Awards, which honor the accomplishments of midcareer federal employees. Dr. Tanner received the award for her breakthrough discovery that patterns of cancer spread in humans can be recreated in zebrafish. This novel animal model allows researchers to address organ-specific drug responses and develop effective immunotherapies in a preclinical platform.

CCR scientists to present at 2022 AACR Annual Meeting in New Orleans

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting is the focal point of the cancer research community, where scientists, clinicians, other health care professionals, survivors, patients, and advocates gather to share the latest advances in cancer science and medicine. Several CCR scientists will present their research at the AACR Annual Meeting.

Steven Pavletic named Top Ten Clinical Research Achievement awardee

Steven Z. Pavletic, M.D., M.S., Senior Clinician in the Immune Deficiency Cellular Therapy Program, has been named a Top Ten Clinical Research Achievement awardee by the Clinical Research Forum for his study “A randomized phase 2 trial of pomalidomide in subjects failing prior therapy for chronic graft-versus-host disease.”
