Xiaofan Li received his Ph.D. degree from Institut Pasteur of Shanghai (now Shanghai Institute of Immunity and Infection) in China, his doctoral research described a new mechanism of how Kaposi sarcoma Herpesvirus (KSHV) perturbs host acute inflammation. His work during postdoctoral trainings in United States focused on the interactions between host cell and two human oncoviruses, Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) and KSHV, during viral lytic reactivation and exploring new reagents promoting oncolytic therapy to EBV and KSHV infected tumor cells. Xiaofan joined the Krug lab in 2020 as a research fellow and got promoted to staff scientist appointment in 2023, his current research focuses include 1) establishing novel animal and cellular models for investigating the development and management of Kaposi sarcoma and other EBV/KSHV infection associated malignancies, 2) investigating the mechanisms of cellular determinants regulating gamma-herpesvirus replication and discovering/repurposing chemical compounds with antiviral potentials.
