Brian Stevens received his bachelor’s degree from Keene State College where he spent 3 years working in Dr. Jason Pellettieri’s lab studying the role of the Nonsense Mediated mRNA Decay pathway and stem cell proliferation in the regenerative planarian species, Schmidtea mediterranea. As a Postbaccalaureate Researcher at NCI-Frederick, Brian investigated when and how regenerative abilities are established during planarian embryogenesis. Brian pinpointed the molecular basis of a stage-dependent regeneration initiation defect and determined that the ability to reset the anterior-posterior axis is key the acquisition of whole-body regenerative abilities. Brian is a first-year student in the Interdisciplinary Biological Sciences Ph.D. Program at Northwestern University.
