Dr. Mohktar Mahmoud is a postdoctoral visiting fellow. He obtained his BS and MSc in Biochemistry from Cairo University, Egypt where he trained in pre-doctoral studies in the laboratory of Dr. Sameh Ali at the Zewail City of Science and Technology. He completed his doctoral work in the laboratory of Dr. Alessia Ligresti and was awarded his doctoral degree from the Molecular Life Sciences program at the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli, Naples, Italy and the National Research Council of Italy. Ali is the recipient of an INCIPIT Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions grant, as well as multiple fellowships for extended international training at the University of Laval, Quebec, Canada (MicroMeNu) and Tsukuba University, Ibaraki, Japan (JASSO and JSPS). Ali’s research focuses on characterizing the impact of energy metabolism on cancer cell biology and behavior. His current project aims to characterize the targetable metabolic phenotypes of pediatric sarcoma tumors and models. Outside of the lab, you can find Ali playing and refereeing “soccer” games (or as he says, “football”) all around the DMV.
