RESEARCH SUMMARY
Dr. Duchon has focused primarily on examining the mechanisms of HIV-1 virus replication and assembly. She has studied the roles of different host cell machinery in HIV virus assembly as well as aspects of viral proteins that are essential for RNA packaging using a wide array of biochemical, cell-based, and microscopy techniques. In collaboration with colleagues, she developed a cell-based drug screening assay for SARS-CoV2. Currently, her research centers on how viral RNA is exported and selected for packaging into assembling virions.
Areas of Expertise
1) retrovirology and SARS-CoV2 2) biochemistry and molecular biology 3) RNA packaging 4) live-cell imaging 5) single-virion analysis
