Dr. Bassel is the staff pathologist within the CAPR Pathology Department. She assists investigators with tissue histopathology for experimental animal research. In addition, she interacts with CAPR’s leadership and other scientists to provide assistance in preclinical model development/optimization, study design, and development of strategies to elucidate phenotypes and interpretation of the results.

Dr. Bassel received an MSc. in epidemiology and a doctorate in veterinary medicine (DVM) from the Ontario Veterinary College. She completed a combined Ph.D. and pathology residency in the Department of Pathobiology at the University of Guelph. She completed a one-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Molecular Histopathology Laboratory at the Frederick National Lab. She maintains a veterinary license through the Maryland Board of Veterinary Examiners and is certified as a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (DACVP) in anatomic pathology.
