The Wall Street Journal recently reported on the growing number of individuals with a family history of stomach cancer who choose to undergo genetic testing or total stomach removal as a preventive measure. The article features Jeremy Davis, M.D., Staff Clinician in the Thoracic and Gastrointestinal Oncology Branch and Surgeon-in-Chief at the NIH Clinical Center, who notes that researchers have quite a bit to learn about a mutation in the CDH1 gene linked to an increased risk of a certain type of stomach cancer.
