RESEARCH SUMMARY
Dr. Kim has expertise in pathologic diagnosis of digestive organ system diseases. Her research interest is on cancer-immune interactions in colorectal and pancreatic cancers, and characterization of gastrointestinal pathology in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, immunodeficiency, and treatment-related complications. She also collaborates with Dr. Jeremy Davis on various projects investigating gastric signet ring cell carcinomas of patients with CDH1 mutation and other germline mutations.

Biography
Sun A. Kim, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Kim graduated from the University of Ulsan College of Medicine in South Korea in 2004 and completed an anatomic pathology residency and fellowship in Asan Medical Center in South Korea. She started her career in the USA as a research fellowship focusing on molecular and pathologic characterization of colorectal cancer at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School, Boston. After 2 years of a research fellowship, she joined Anatomic Pathology Residency at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, MD, and completed it in 2018 with Anatomic Pathology Board Certification. She additionally completed a Surgical Pathology Fellowship at Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, and a Gastrointestinal Pathology Fellowship at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York. She worked as a Faculty Pathologist and Assistant Professor at George Washington University, Washington DC for 3 years, after which she re-joined NIH as a Staff Clinician (Pathologist) and Assistant Research Physician in 2023.
