RESEARCH SUMMARY
Rand Buenaventura is a postbaccalaureate CRTA fellow in the Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Genetics, working closely with Dr. Yanlin Yu. He graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering in 2021, and joined the Merlino lab in June 2022. His research focuses on the interactions between tumor cells and the tumor microenvironment in metastasis. Using molecular cloning, cell culture, gene transfection and expression, gene editing, western blot, flow cytometry analysis, and animal studies, Rand’s objective is to identify candidate molecular targets or signaling pathways relevant to underlying mechanisms, clinical diagnosis and therapeutic utility, and prevention.
