RESEARCH SUMMARY
Dr. Puttaraju received his Ph. D. degree from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. He has been at LRBGE Section since 2012 and is currently a Biologist at Dr. Misteli’s lab. Dr. Puttaraju has an excellent Research & Development experience in both academics and biotech industry on the fields of Aging & Cancer, RNA therapeutics and Gene therapy for treating genetic disease. Dr. Puttaraju main focus on mechanism of aging and cancer including product development for treating premature aging disease called progeria. Aging is one of the major risk factors for cancer. Some of the well-known common hallmarks of aging and cancer are alterations in DNA methylation, DNA damage, histone modifications, and epigenetic regulatory mechanisms. These characteristic makes progeria a good model system to study and understand both aging and cancer. Dr. Puttaraju will perform antisense-based high-throughput screen and identify compounds to modulate novel pathways involved in aging process and he will use his molecular and biochemical skills to characterize these pathways.
