RESEARCH SUMMARY
Dr. Karzai is an internationally recognized physician with expertise in all stages of prostate cancer and clinical trial development. Her clinical research program includes genetics/genomics, imaging, immunotherapy, and health disparities. Dr. Karzai is passionate about patient care and improving the lives of patients with cancer. Dr. Karzai’s mission is to deliver exemplary clinical care to patients involved in innovative clinical trials, while pursuing her goals of combining scientific advancement and leadership. Dr. Karzai also provides mentorship to women in medicine.
In addition, Dr. Karzai is the NCI Deputy Clinical Director.

Research
As NCI Deputy Clinical Director, Dr. Karzai is passionate about patient care and clinical research. Dr. Karzai's research is focused on novel combination therapies in prostate cancer, particularly with immunotherapeutic agents such as immune checkpoint blocking antibodies and agents targeting defects in DNA damage repair pathways. Dr. Karzai is the Medical Director of the NCI Prostate Cancer Multidisciplinary Clinic and an Adjunct Investigator in the NCI Center for Immuno-Oncology. The Genitourinary Malignancies Branch enrolls patients onto clinical trials in all stages of prostate cancer.

Biography
Fatima Karzai, M.D.
Dr. Karzai received her M.D. from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, DC where she also completed her Internal Medicine residency. She completed her fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at NIH. Upon completion of her fellowship, she continued her work with the Genitourinary Malignancies Branch at the NCI as Principal Investigator of prostate cancer clinical trials. She is now a Senior Clinician in GMB and the Deputy Clinical Director for NCI. In her spare time, Dr. Karzai enjoys art, design and traveling.
