RESEARCH SUMMARY
Dr. Duncan is a pediatric oncologist and physician scientist in the Hematologic Malignancies Section of the Pediatric Oncology Branch. Her clinical interests include implementation of novel chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapies for treatment of leukemia and lymphoma in children, adolescents, and young adults. Her research focuses on using translational approaches to understand CAR T cell trafficking in nonhuman primates.
Areas of Expertise
Brynn B. Duncan, M.D.
Research
Dr. Duncan has a longstanding interest in CAR T cells and her clinical research involves their implementation through early phase clinical trials for children, adolescents, and young adults with relapsed/refractory hematologic malignancies. Her translational research aims to better understand CAR T cell trafficking and persistence through imaging in nonhuman primate models.
Biography
Brynn B. Duncan, M.D.
After completing her undergraduate studies at Gettysburg College, Dr. Duncan spent two years as a post-baccalaureate researcher in the Pediatric Oncology Branch under the mentorship of Dr. Terry Fry, where she was first introduced to CAR T cells. She received her M.D. from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2016 and completed her pediatric residency at the University of Virginia in 2019. Dr. Duncan trained in pediatric hematology/oncology through the combined National Cancer Institute – Johns Hopkins University fellowship program and was Chief Fellow 2021-2022. During fellowship, she worked in the laboratory of Dr. Cynthia Dunbar in the National Heart, Lung & Blood Institute studying CAR T cell biology with a focus on CAR T cell trafficking using the sodium-iodide symporter to allow for PET-based localization of CAR T cells in a nonhuman primate model. She was also an associate investigator in a clinical trial of eltrombopag for treatment of Diamond-Blackfan Anemia. She joined the Hematologic Malignancies Section in the Pediatric Oncology Branch as an Assistant Research Physician in early 2024.
