Although rare, Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus (KSHV)-associated inflammatory cytokine syndrome (KICS) and KSHV-multicentric Castleman disease (MCD) can both occur in people who are living with HIV. These diseases cause severe inflammation and can be fatal if they are not treated.
A clinical trial led by Ramya Ramaswami, M.B.B.S., M.P.H., Lasker Clinical Research Scholar in the HIV and AIDS Malignancy Branch, is researching drug therapy for these HIV-related diseases.
The trial will take place at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and there is no cost for medical care received at the Clinical Center.
