The NIH main campus is in Bethesda, a suburban neighborhood of Montgomery County, Maryland. Bethesda is just outside of Washington, DC. This area is alive with cultural activities, biking/hiking trails, history, shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. The Metro bus and subway system link Bethesda to the museums, monuments, National Zoo and other attractions in nearby Washington, DC. In fact, the NIH campus has its own Metro stop at Medical Center.

- Eight MCPS high schools made the U.S. News & World Report 2013 list of Best High Schools.
- MCPS had the top six high schools in the state of Maryland.
