RESEARCH SUMMARY
Dr. Hsia received his Ph.D. at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. His research focuses on deciphering the roles of histone variants (e.g., CENP-A, H1.5) in cellular stiffness, and the mechanically induced chromatin responses. In collaboration with Emilios Dimitriadis (NIBIB) and Marc Ferrer (NCATS), he has utilized atomic force microscopy (AFM) to study mechanical properties in both 2D cultured cells and 3D bio-printed models. His long-term goal is to understand how nucleosome composition can influence cell adaptation to mechanical challenges in the environment, and if disruption of such mechanisms may contribute to tumor malignancy.
