Ms. Velazquez has been a social worker in Children’s Hospital at Montefiore’s Division for Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Blood Cell Transplantation since 2007; specializing in sarcoma, malignant-hematology diseases and BMT. After receiving the Watts Scholarship through the Benson Henry Institute she became a Certified SMART provider teaching Stress Management & Resiliency Skills. Her own personal stress management regimen includes being a SHiNE Dance Fitness Instructor and participation in an anti-racist discussion group through the Sati Community called "The Relearning Circle". She received her MSW from New York University and has a history of working in non-profit organizations, supporting families in foster care, advocating for people charged with crimes in the Bronx and supervising case management teams who provided services to people with HIV/AIDS.
