Bill Telford receives 2019 International Society for the Advancement of Cytometry Distinguished Service Award

Bill Telford, Ph.D., Senior Associate Scientist in the Experimental Transplantation and Immunology Branch, has received the 2019 International Society for the Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC) Distinguished Service Award. The award honors individuals who served ISAC in a major role, provided major support to ISAC and its members or made a significant contribution to the success of ISAC.

Doug Lowy receives Distinguished Scientist Award from the Association of American Cancer Institutes

Doug Lowy, M.D., Acting Director of NCI and Chief of the Laboratory of Cellular Oncology, has been selected to receive the Association of American Cancer Institutes (AACI) Distinguished Scientist Award. AACI is recognizing Dr. Lowy for his long-term research on the molecular biology of tumor viruses and growth regulation, his role in enabling the development of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines and his exploration of oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes and their signaling pathways.

CCR scientists receive the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers

John Brognard, Ph.D., Investigator in the Laboratory of Cell and Developmental SignalingRomina Goldszmid, Ph.D., Investigator in the Cancer and Inflammation Program, and Anish Thomas, M.D., Investigator in the Developmental Therapeutics Branch, are recipients of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). The PECASE is the highest honor bestowed by the United States Government to outstanding scientists and engineers who are beginning their independent research careers and who show exceptional promise for leadership in science and technology. Established in 1996, the PECASE acknowledges the contributions scientists and engineers have made to the advancement of science, technology, engineering and mathematics education and to community service as demonstrated by scientific leadership, public education and community outreach.

CCR fellows receive Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Young Investigator Awards

Congratulations to Vid Leko M.D., Lekha Mikkilineni, M.D., and Chen Zhao, M.D., for receiving the Conquer Cancer Foundation of ASCO Young Investigator Award (YIA). The YIA provides funding to promising investigators to encourage and promote quality research in clinical oncology. The purpose of this grant is to fund physicians during the transition from a fellowship program to a faculty appointment.
