Application process and eligibility requirements
Early- and mid-career faculty with a research lab at a research institution. Faculty must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, have a Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree, and align their research interests with those of a CCR PI.
Applications are due by end of day, December 8, 2024.
If changes need to be made to an application, they can be made via the CCR Application Management System portal. Changes can be made in the system until the close of the application window on December 8, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Organization and logistics
CCR is the basic, translational and clinical intramural research program of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). CCR conducts a wide range of cutting-edge research in various areas of cancer and biomedical science, with over 200 laboratories dedicated to advancing our understanding and treatment of cancer and related diseases.
CCR offers a wide range of research opportunities in areas such as cancer health disparities, chromosome biology, genitourinary malignancies, immunology, immunotherapy, rare diseases, RNA biology and more. You can explore a comprehensive list of our research areas and disease focuses and view CCR PIs in each field.
Host PIs provide access to resources, guidance and support to VF, fostering a collaborative research environment.
VF and their student will be provided with stipends. VF Awardees will also be provided with Transhare benefits if they choose to opt out of on-campus parking. Students are not eligible for on-campus parking.
No, CCR does not provide housing for VF or students.
Faculty are expected to conduct and present their research, participate in professional development sessions, and engage in networking events. Students are expected to participate in the NIH Office of Intramural Training & Education Summer Poster Session and any networking events available.
The program does not include vacation or sick leave. However, you are not expected to be present on days the laboratory is closed due to federal holidays. Hosts and VF work together to determine a mutually beneficial schedule.
CCR cannot give participants tax advice. All stipends paid to you are reported to the Internal Revenue Service. Participants should consult a tax expert with their questions.
Student participation
A full-time student is defined as a student who is enrolled for the number of hours or courses your home institution considers to be full time.
