RESEARCH SUMMARY
Ms Haggerty is a flexible manager of multiple tasks involving laboratory management, including budget monitoring, purchasing, personnel, equipment maintenance, purchase and repairs, IT equipment and software management, and website maintenance. "I do what needs to be done, so my scientists can do science."
In addition to managing a Branch with six investigators and two core facilities, she chairs the Lab Managers' Scientific Interest Group, managing its listserv and associated MS Team, for NIH Lab Managers. She also collaborates extensively with NIH Acquisitions and NIH Safety staff to ensure scientists have the resources they require and can work in a safe environment.

Biography

Cynthia M Haggerty, MLIS
Ms Haggerty received her B.S. in Biochemical Engineering from Rutgers University, College of Engineering in May 1989. She went on to graduate school in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ. For personal reasons, she left graduate school and joined NIH as a Biologist in September 1990. Over her career at NIH, she's worked as a Research Assistant at the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute on Aging, and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. In 2012, she left the bench and her responsibilities greatly expanded from managing one lab to multiple labs and core facilities as the Technical Lab Manager for the Branch. After she became a TLM, she went back to graduate school for information management and received her Masters in Library and Information Sciences in December of 2016 from the University of Maryland's College of Information Studies.
In her personal time, Ms Haggerty enjoys hiking, biking and viking reenactment.
