Position Description: 

A Staff Scientist position is open in Dr. Ji Luo’s Section in the Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Genetics (LCBG) at the Center for Cancer Research (CCR), the National Cancer Institute (NCI). For this specific Staff Scientist, we are seeking an individual to meet the mission of Dr. Luo’s Section in the LCBG by conducting research to understand the biology of the Ras oncogene and to identify new therapeutic targets for the treatment of Ras mutant cancers. We require a qualified individual with scientific expertise in the following specific areas: 1) molecular biology of KRAS mutant cancer; 2)  the mechanism of non-oncogene addiction in KRAS mutant cells; 3) functional genomics using combinatorial siRNA-based multi-gene targeting screens in KRAS mutant cells; 4) anchorage-independent 3D cell culture including tumor spheroids with KRAS mutant cells; 5) molecular biology of the MAPK pathway and autophagy pathways in KRAS mutant cells; and, 6) drug combination studies in KRAS mutant cancer cells. The applicant should have a strong publication record in Ras cancer biology and possess strong communication skills.

In addition, the Staff Scientist will be responsible for assisting the PI with the training and supervision of junior laboratory members in conducting cancer research and for assisting the PI with laboratory management and administrative work. The qualified individual should have experience in supervising/mentoring junior members (e.g., postbac fellows and students) in a research laboratory and experience with laboratory management.

Applicant must have a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry and/or molecular biology with at least five (5) years of postdoctoral research experience. For this specific position, the applicant should have research expertise in the following areas: 1) molecular biology of KRAS mutant cancer; 2)  the mechanism of non-oncogene addiction in KRAS mutant cells;  3) functional genomics using combinatorial siRNA-based multi-gene targeting screens in KRAS mutant cells; 4) anchorage-independent 3D cell culture including tumor spheroids with KRAS mutant cells; 5) molecular biology of the MAPK and autophagy pathways in KRAS mutant cells; and, 6) drug combination studies in KRAS mutant cancer cells.
