A post-doctoral position is available in the Oberdoerffer laboratory to study the regulation and impact of mRNA acetylation in immune cell development. The laboratory is generally interested in the role of the epigenome and epitranscriptome in mRNA processing and function. We examine the role of DNA methylation in co-transcriptional pre-mRNA splicing, and the influence of mRNA modifications in post-transcriptional mRNA regulation. Projects in the laboratory are highly integrated and utilize a variety of approaches ranging from the biochemical to genome/transcriptome-wide profiling.
The position to be filled builds on our recent observation that acetylated cytidine within mRNA promotes transcript stability and translation (Arango et al., Cell, 2018). We now wish to test the functional relevance of our findings in physiologically relevant model systems including primary human immune cells and transgenic mice. In particular, we will assess the impact of mRNA acetylation on immune cell differentiation, transformation and aging. Expertise in the isolation of primary lymphocytes from human blood and mouse tissues, flow cytometry, and in vitro differentiation techniques, as well as a general background in mouse genetics will be required to successfully execute these aims. Technical support in colony maintenance and bioinformatics will be provided.
Candidates must be strongly motivated, possess a Ph.D. or equivalent and have no more than one year of post-doctoral experience. Successful applicants should have a strong theoretical background in gene regulation, RNA biology, and immunology, as well as a track-record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
