My research work focuses on the discovery of new natural product compounds with anticancer or anti-HIV properties. Bioassay-guided chemical fractionation of natural product extracts is employed to isolate and purify individual bioactive compounds. Chemical and spectroscopic analysis are then used to establish the complete molecular structures of the active agents. This involves the acquisition and analysis of data from a variety of contemporary spectroanalytical techniques, with a particular emphasis on NMR and mass spectrometry. Identification and structural characterization of these bioactive compounds provides new structural classes or molecular scaffolds for the development of potential drug leads or biological probes.
