|We developed a native-state hydrogen exchange method to identify partially unfolded intermediate states, which have high free energy and low population (Bai et al., Science, 1995). We also developed a native-state hydrogen exchange-guided protein engineering method to populate the intermediates for structural determination at atomic resolution by NMR (Feng et al., PNAS, 2005).|

|We determined the structures of the chaperones (Chz1 and Scm3) in complex with the corresponding histone variants H2A.Z-H2B (Zhou et al., Nat. Struct. Mol. Biol.2008) and Cse4-H4 (Zhou et al., Nature, 2011).|
|Structural Models of Nucleosome in Complex with Chromatin Factors Determined by Methyl-Based NMR|
|We have assigned the methyl groups in the nucleosome and built a structural model of the nucleosome in complex with high mobility group nucleosomal protein 2 (HMGN2) (Kato et al., PNAS, 2011).|
