NCI Graduate Scholars in Molecular Pathology
Ph.D. candidates pursuing residencies in pathology at NCI graduate partnership universities are eligible to enter the training program as NCI Graduate Scholars in Molecular Pathology . This component is designed to support veterinarians during their training in veterinary pathology and biomedical research. Competitively selected Graduate Scholars will enroll in a combined five-year pathology residency and Ph.D. program. After course work and initial training in diagnostic pathology is completed, Graduate Scholars will come to the CCR to continue pathology training and to conduct dissertation research. The NCI/CCR will support Graduate Scholars for up to the first two years at a partnership university offering graduate training in comparative and veterinary medicine followed by three years at the NCI/CCR. Successful completion of the program will lead to a Ph.D. degree and eligibility for certification as a specialist in veterinary pathology.
Prospective Graduate Scholars in Molecular Pathology and Molecular Pathology Graduate Fellows shall apply for acceptance to both a University Partner Graduate School and the NCI/CCR by responding to program announcements and recruitments. Funding support, including tuition and fees, will be provided through a memorandum of understanding to Partnership Universities for the benefit of accepted students. Students will receive stipend support and health insurance. Universities shall establish degree requirements and provide a doctoral committee to direct students with appropriate participation by CCR faculty. Universities shall provide necessary didactic courses, which can include by joint agreement educational material developed and provided by the CCR. Universities are expected to award course credit for mutually acceptable research undertaken by trainees at the CCR and to confer a Ph.D. on candidates successfully completing a satisfactory course of study. Opportunities for university faculty members to engage in collaborative research interactions with CCR scientists will be fostered whenever scientifically rational.
