Position Description: The Dermatology Branch, Center for Cancer Research, National Cancer Institute is a national leader in investigative dermatology, cutaneous biology and cutaneous immunology and is responsible for all dermatology clinical care that is administered at the NIH Clinical Center. We are seeking an outstanding clinician and clinical researcher to serve as Head of the Dermatology Branch Consultation Service and to lead a clinical research program in an area that complements existing programs in the Clinical Center.

The Dermatology Branch has a long history of excellence in laboratory- and clinic-based dermatology research and has produced many leaders in the specialty. The Center for Cancer Research (CCR) is the largest intramural research component of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The CCR is a cancer center that features intensive studies involving small numbers of patients, often with uncommon malignancies. The Clinical Center is the largest hospital in the world that is devoted exclusively to clinical research. Patients who are cared for in the Clinical Center are afflicted by a wide variety of diseases. The Dermatology Branch Consultation Service is one of the busiest consultation services in the Clinical Center. Patients who are cared for have complicated and challenging problems. Clinical research activities initiated from within the Branch involve patients with graft versus host disease, studies of the skin microbiome in health and disease and patients with xeroderma pigmentosum and trichothiodystrophy. Branch members are also involved in many collaborative clinical research projects that include studies of patients with immunodeficiencies, unusual infections, autoinflammatory syndromes and many other inherited and sporadic diseases.
Experience Required: Applicants must have an M.D. degree and be Board-certified in Dermatology. The successful candidate will be an expert clinician with a record of achievement in an interesting relevant area of contemporary clinical research. A genuine interest in education is very important, and a commitment to training and mentoring is required. The incumbent will Head the Dermatology Branch Consultation Service and will have supervisory responsibilities. A robust clinical research program will be supported by intramural infrastructure and funds.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with research experience and accomplishments, and a full Civil Service package of benefits (including health insurance, life insurance, retirement and a Thrift Savings Plan) is available. Candidates may be eligible for the NIH Loan Repayment Program (http://www.LRP.NIH.gov). Applicants must be eligible to be credentialed in the Clinical Center to be considered.
Additional Information: Interested individuals should submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, brief statement of clinical and research interests and future plans (1-2 pages) electronically to Ms. Sallie Baird (sbaird@mail.nih.gov) or by mail to the address below.
