Over 450 participants, including post-docs, clinical fellows, grad students, post-bacs, and PIs, attended the 4th annual CCR-FYI retreat on March 9-12,
2004. Outside keynote speakers included renowned scientists Dr. Stanley
Prusiner (1997 Nobel Laureatte for the discovery of prions), Dr. Robert Wienberg (1997 National Medal of Science winner, first to identify the ras oncogene and Rb tumor suppressor), and Dr. Stephen Lippard (MIT Chemist instrumental in platinum anti-cancer drugs), who spoke not only about their science and career paths, but spent time to interact with the fellows in a more relaxed setting. Intramural leaders, Dr. Carl Barrett and Dr. Shiv Grewal were also distinguished speakers at the retreat.
The town meeting with Dr. Barrett allowed attendees to have an open forum to make comments, ask questions, and air concerns. Dr. Barrett also shared progress on several issues that had been brought up at the 2003 retreat town meeting which had been addressed during the year, including mentoring and professional development.
Congratulations to all who received awards for their outstanding presentations!
